Diet to Lose Weight - 3

This is Day 11 of our new diet to lose weight before our cruise this weekend. It's been a interesting journey to say the least because we've changed so much about our eating habits. Mostly the changes have been phycological about food. I was totally addicted to food and I believe that this comes from my naturally addictive personality. The scary thing is once you're in that mode it's very hard to change and it takes a radical move to make the difference. However, you must be committed in order to last.

The good news: I've lost 7 pounds and my wife has lost 6 pounds in 11 days.

Keep following and we'll let you know how the cruise goes as well:

Diet to Lose Weight - 2

So it's offically been 72 hours on our new diet using the Take Shape for Life plan with Lynda Anderson, our meal coach. The change in eating has been the hardest part, plus we're addicted to food, and learning to cook the food properly for taste is a learning process. But, it hasn't been bad, just a learning curve we're willing to go through to loose this weight.

So I'm ashamed to say that I didn't get our pictures earlier. It's so easy with the digital camera, but it didn't happen. Today we've succeeded and our before pictures are complete.

The good news: I've lost 5 pounds in 72 hours and my wife lost 2 pounds in 72 hours.

The bad news: We're doing so well I'm tempted to eat a Big Mac. Just one. My thought is that if I can lose weight this quickly then what's the harm right? Don't worry. I'm not going to. My wife won't let me.

So follow along in our weight loss journey:

Our cruise to the Western Caribbean is only two (2) weeks from today and now we're confident that we can drop our weight beforehand so we can maintain it while on our cruise.

Diet to Lose Weight - 1

As promised in my last diet post, I will keep you updated as to how our new diet is working for us.

Our food arrived yesterday, earlier than expected, and so we got started right away. Food for 30 days for 2 people and I was expecting a pretty good sized box, but apparantly we're not going to be eating much. And, this is the point. The first few days our caloric intake will only be around 1000 calories each day.

But we're genuinely excited about this because we've finally changed our lifestyle to include a regular exercise regimen at the gym and now we're taking care of our diet and eating style.

We plan to be on this program for less than 60 days (and we'll see how it goes), but more than anything we want to "learn" about food and how our bodies react to it. This way we can have a healthier approach to everyday foods.

So we opened the box and got started deciding what to eat.

Diet_food_packs

There's maple and brown sugar oatmeal, chili, soups, snack bars, shakes, caffeine free cappuccino and chai tea, and a couple of things like measuring cups.

I started with chili for lunch and it smelled like a chef was in my kitchen, but it had no taste. Apparently there are tips to add flavors, but I was already finished with it.

My wife started with chicken noodle soup. She said it was fine flavor wise but it wasn't much soup. Again, we're getting used to cutting way back.

Then our next meal was an orange cream shake. It was actually really good. We added ice and blended it up. I'm looking forward to another flavor today for my afternoon shake.

For "dinner" we had a fairly large salad with chicken, low-fat low-carb ranch dressing, and tomatoes.

For our 1 cup of vegetables we ate home canned green beans. Today we'll go get some more vegetables to snack on.

And lastly we each had a snack bar. I had the Oatmeal Raisin and my wife had the Smores bar. Both were the best tasting food all day. In fact, I would eat these every day for a snack knowing the protein intake is twice any other average bar.

So we're through day 1 and on to day 2. I'm hoping to get the pictures and measurements today so we can track every little detail from the first 24 hours.

Diet to Lose 10-15 Pounds

Last weekend, at the Lynnwood Wedding Expo, I met my new diet coach. Lynda Anderson from Take Shape for Life exhibited and was so much help in getting me motivated to take the last step in changing my diet. I don't want to eat like a rabbit, and I'm a little nervous about the whole thing, but we're getting on a Western Caribbean cruise in two (2) weeks and want to be ready. Plus there is gonna be a lot of food on the boat and if we don't get some willpower, we'll be screwed.

My wife and I have been working out in the gym for eight (8) months, hired a personal trainer, mountain biked for 30-45 miles per week, and increased overall activity. However, we feel we've hit a plateau. We've both strengthened, built muscle, increased our energy, and all around desire foods that are better for us. But it's very difficult to eat less when you're building muscle and very hard to determine what's good for you to be eating, how to control portions, avoiding the snacks and nervous eating.

When we started with our trainer we went through a questionnaire to see what our goals were going to be, our starting weight, goal weight, body fat, etc.

Here's the breakdown for my wife.

Most important to least important goal for being in the gym:

  1. Feel Better
  2. Look Better
  3. Lose Weight
  4. Be healthier

Total weight loss goal:

  • Lose 15 pounds (currently down 5 pounds)
  • Lose 12% body fat (currently down 1%)

Here's the breakdown for myself.

Most important to least important goal for being in the gym:

  1. Be healthier
  2. Feel Better
  3. Lose Weight
  4. Look Better

Total weight loss goal:

  • Lose 10 pounds (currently up 12 pounds -- muscle gain)
  • Lose 10% body fat (currently down 5%)

Our food should be here tomorrow, and we're getting ready to change everything we know about eating. We'll keep you informed as we go.

Borrowed Bling Gets New York Times Attention

When I first blogged about the company Borrowed Bling I knew they were on to something big. This is one of the most unique ideas I have seen in my many years in the wedding industry, and now they have recieved attention from the New York Times, who ran a story on them in the Style section of the Sunday September 10th edition of the newspaper.

Read more about it at the Borrowed Bling blog.

What Hairstyles Are Right For Your Wedding

Manolohairstyles Manolo had a great post today featuring tons of pictures of wedding hairstyles and some tips on do-it-yourself kits from Wedding Hair.

But brides can still walk into the salon armed with a picture of what they want. And while it’s important to be realistic, I’m convinced that good stylists are magicians in disguise.

A Day at the Spa

I was reading a blog (JSHNEA - WARM SPIRIT), and it got me thinking. After all the busy planning, and preparing, why not take the day before the wedding to have a relaxing spa day with your bridesmaids, mom, mother-in-law, sister, who ever, to relax and enjoy the company of the important women in your life. Its a good way to show your appriciation for all they do and relax before the big day.

4 Tips for Tanning Before the Wedding

OK ladies, in my last post, I introduced a weight loss option, but when desiring to look our best a nice tan can definitely help. Here are 4 tips I found for doing it the smart way:

1) Use sunblock in all tanning situations for protection.
2) Build on the tan, go several time for very short periods to see how your skin tans ie: turns red, red to brown, just brown but peels.
3) Let you makeup artist know if you are going to get darker before the wedding day.
4) Your out of town guests, should understand if you are unable to get too much sun before the big day.

Drop Weight Before The Big Day

Who doesn't want to look absolutly fabulous on their wedding day? I don't know about you but I could loose a few pounds. I found this blog about loosing weight at a spa instead of a gym, sounds good to me. The idea is they heat your core temperture slightly so that the fat melts away. But how much can you really use, they say:

How many calories can you melt away? The average is from 1200 to 2500 calories in one session. It takes about 3000 to 3500 calories to create or burn a pound of fat.

Sounds worth a try to me, what could it hurt.

Eye Makeup 101

OK ladies I am completely clueless when it comes to makeup. I have been doing my makeup the same for at least the last 10 years, and could use a serious makeover, so I went in search of some tips. I found a website that is great. It walks you through how to do your eye makeup based on your personal eye shape.
