Enjoy Life this 4th of July

ENJOY LIFE!  We are all very busy. BRIDES preparing weddings.  Wedding Professionals scurrying around from weekend to weekend ensuring that everything is perfect for thier clients.  Bridal show Producers ensuring that the next event is perfect for both Bride and Wedding Professional.  Pressure, pressure, pressure.  Not to mention our private lives, our financial goals, fitness goals, health....Aaauugghhhh!  Where does it end.

Well...after getting off an email letter with my brother in Iraq I realize that family is most important.  He is in another country, right or wrong.  He is defending life and protecting our way of life...for his family.

This 4th of July I say STOP the pressure.  STOP planning.  STOP worrying.  ENJOY!  Enjoy the day, the weekend, the family.  Go running.  Get some much needed sleep.  Stay up all night watching a favorite movie or alot of favorite movies...it doesn't matter what you do as long as you stop working...realize that our industry, the wedding industry, should be about planning great parties and celebrating family.

For the brides/grooms out there this weekend...ENJOY one of the best weekends our country has to offer.  One of the best weekends to be in your new life together.  If your like me married for 18 years with 4 boys, I will stop working and start playing.  Again ENJOY, this is the time of our/your life.

New Website for Brides Club Coming in 9 Days

We're so excited to share with you our new website that will be launching on Sunday, July 15.

The significance of this new website is that we're adding a communication channel whereby brides can help other brides plan for their wedding through question and answer posts. So in essence this is a blog where the question is the post of the day and the answers are all the comments. Furthermore, others can participate as well such as wedding vendors, mothers, grooms, etc.

We know that planning a wedding brings up a lot of questions and having a support group is critical so we're introducing the new Brides Club for you on July 15.

Podcast Mention for BridesClub.com

Thanks to David G. Lopez from Tunes Entertainment, a wedding dj in Southern California, for the BridesClub.com mention on his Weddings in the Computer Age podcast. David also hosts a podcast named Behind the Wedding Mic, which includes interviews of wedding professionals to help answer questions for you.

Seattle Wedding Expos - Promotion

A radio promotion for the upcoming Wedding Expo in Tacoma is geared towards the guys. We've seen more of this trend happening lately in wedding planning. Since more couples are paying for their wedding (or at least a larger portion of it).

Wedding Vendor Planning

I just returned from Phoenix, AZ where I was a speaker at the Wedding MBA convention. I met so many great wedding professionals from all over the country who were looking to find a better way to provide the absolute best service to brides.

If you're ever interested in a career in the wedding industry, the Wedding Merchants Business Academy is a great place to start.

I've been home for 12 hours and I'm leaving again in the morning for Seattle to co-produce our Wedding Expos in Tacoma, Bellevue, and Lynnwood.

It was 74 degrees in Phoenix, it's 29 degrees in Utah (but it feels like 17 and it's snowing), and Seattle has 8 inches of fresh snow and it's like 30 degrees -- brrrr.

New Wedding Expo the Magazine Coming January 2007

The 2007 Wedding Expo Magazine will be available in January 2007 starting at the Tacoma Wedding Expo. You can also find copies throughout Puget Sound at various retail locations including bridal shops, formal wear stores, florists, jewelry stores, reception halls and various other locations.

Since 1987, we've been through some changes. The old Bridal Directory, which was a purse-sized directory book has been upgraded to a full-color glossy wedding magazine named after the Wedding Expos in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, and Lynnwood.

Planning a Seattle wedding is becoming easier than ever with the use of bridal shows, magazines, and web pages and we're thrilled to bring you the new Wedding Expo the Magazine.

Going to Press with the Hawaii Bridal Expo Magazine

Today I've been at press with our Hawaii Bridal Expo Magazine, earlier than expected by about a week. This means that our new bridal magazine will be available on Oahu prior to our Bridal Expo at the Blaisdell Center on January 19-21, 2007.

I've been proofing our wedding magazines for about 10 years now, and we've been fortunate to work with the same high-speed, quality printer out of Salt Lake City -- conveniently located about 30 minutes from my house.

For those of you who don't know, a magazine is printed in pieces that are bound together and then trimmed to size. The pieces are known as "signatures" or "forms" and are usually done as 8, 16, or 32 page groups (ours are usually 16 page sigs).

Four-color printing also consists of four (4) plates of colors (Cyan (Blue), Magenta (Pink), Yellow, and Black). So the paper runs off these huge rolls and each color is laid over the other, dried, and then folded as it comes off the press. And, all of this at 12,000 - 15,000 copies an hour.

Our Hawaii magazine takes about 12-13 hours to complete so it's a long day and usually starts about 6 am. Today everything got delayed because of record-low temperatures and several more inches of winter snow. So I'm looking at being here until midnight and then driving home on icy roads. I guess it's better than the 2 hour commute I had coming in this morning.

Our Seattle magazine will be on press before Christmas so I'll be back for that as well. Unfortunately that magazine takes about 24 hours so sleeping on the printer's couch and taking a 24 hour shift is coming soon. :-(

The good news is the magazine looks great and will be out very soon so keep an eye out for it.

Finishing Touch To Be Featured On National TV

Congratulations to Finishing Touch for their feature on national TV. This is the second Bridesclub vendor this month to be featured by national media.

Earlier this week Thornewood Castle was featured on NBC's Today Show, and now Finishing Touch is scheduled to be featured on the Oxygen Channels "Entertaining in Paradise", and a featured wedding planner on the very popular E Entertainment show "How Do I Look".

Setting Up a Bridal Show

I've been setting up bridal shows since I was 14 years old so when setup day comes it's a piece of cake. However, today we've been setting up our Wedding Expo in Lynnwood at the new Lynnwood Convention Center and not only is it cake, but the facility is brand new and very nice.

Once again I'm leaving for Seattle this morning. This time it's for the Lynnwood Fall Wedding Expo at the new Lynnwood Convention Center.

I've got my digital camera and tripod and I'm hoping to get some good pictures for our new photo blog -- coming soon. I'm also hoping to find some free wi-fi so I can post throughout the weekend. Seattle wasn't so friendly in this way, but maybe Lynnwood is better.

Big Pink Car from BridesClub.com

Okay I have to admit getting in the big pink BridesClub.com car wasn't as embarrasing at Sea-Tac airport as I thought it would be. I'm just not one to draw a lot of attention to myself but it was entertaining because everyone wants to see who's inside the big pink car. I'm sure they're also wondering about the two guys in the front seat. ;-)

Brad Buckles, President of Brides Club, Inc., happens to be my brother and he recently wrapped his car in this "very pink" sticker set for several reasons. He is often on the road in the greater Seattle area and nothing advertises like a big pink car driving down the freeway. But he also had bigger plans -- more on that coming up.

Brides at the Seattle Wedding Expo last weekend (see the booty shaking contest video) were snapping pictures, asking questions, and I'm sure wondering what this is all about. Now you see the first reason we did this.

Leaving for Seattle Wedding Expo

This morning I'm leaving for Seattle to help produce the Seattle Fall Wedding Expo this weekend. If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, go online and save $2.00 off per ticket until Friday night. Also, grooms and dads get in free.

I'm packed with digital camera, video camera, tripod, and more wires than a Boeing 747 so I can capture the entire weekend, and I'm really hoping to find some wi-fi downtown so I actively post throughout the weekend.

I'm also very excited to see the new Brides Club car, which will be prominently displayed near the fashion show for all to see. In fact, I should be near the car, before and after the fashion show, on Saturday and Sunday with Brides Club trivia and give-aways from Godiva Chocolatier.
