Lucky Wedding Date Approaching This Weekend

So after months of speculation that the luckiest wedding date of all, 7-7-7 (July 7, 2007), is fast approaching and Las Vegas is packed with couples getting ready to marry this weekend. But you don't have to be getting married in Las Vegas on 7-7-7 for your wedding to be "lucky." Other locations that are expecting a larger amount of weddings than normal are Hawaii, the Caribbean, Miami, Orlando, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

So if you haven't made plans for getting married on 7-7-7, you might be too late (except in Las Vegas if you're not choosy), but that doesn't mean you're out completely... there's always 9-8-7 coming up. I know. It's not lucky like 7-7-7 but it's still a cool numbered date.

Have a safe and happy 4th.

NBC Drops The Real Wedding Crashers

Okay so I was totally wrong about this new TV show, The Real Wedding Crashers, and NBC was too. In my first post about this new TV show, I was pretty optimistic because Ashton Kutcher was behind the project.

Apparently the show isn't holding any interest and NBC isn't even sure they're going to show the final shows of the season.

Groom Drowns on Wedding Trip to Hawaii

Lately there have been a lot of tragic stories around the world involving members of the wedding party and this story adds to the pile.

A man dies off Maui, Hawaii while swimming with friends. Onlookers jumped into the water after his calls for help and recovered his body a short time later.

Maui County Medical Examiner Burt Freeland said 29-year-old Kuon Phou was swimming with friends when the group was caught in a strong current and began calling for help.

Residents ran into the water with surfboards to help and brought the group to shore and recovered Phou's body. Police said signs warned of rip tides in the area.

They were getting married on Saturday.

Princess Brides from Disney

Disney, the king of princesses for the 20th century, is adding princess bridal gowns to it's wedding line, which already includes weddings at it's resorts and on it's cruise line.

"We do 'being a princess' better than anyone," Korri McFann, marketing manager for Disney Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons, said in an interview.

The gowns were inspired by Disney princesses in Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid and all the dresses have a classic/modern appeal using the latest fabrics and cuts.

Kelly's gowns, which debuted on a New York catwalk on Sunday, range in price from $1,500 to $3,000, below couture prices but above the average wedding dress price of $1,000. The price point is aimed at a generation of couples who are getting married older and paying for their own celebrations, Disney said.

Stolen Wedding Dresses Found

Last November trucks filled with wedding dresses donated to the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation were stolen out of a hotel parking lot in Scottsdale, Arizona. Last week they were found when they turned a truck and trailer around for lack of enough documentation. More investigation turned up the missing gowns.

Read the rest of the story

The Making Memories Brides for Breast Cancer Foundation travels the nation doing gown sales with donated dresses and then uses the money raised to provide breast cancer patients with money to attain their wishes.

Brides Club has participated a couple of times in the Seattle, Washington area and there are so many others that have participated large and small across the nation to make this a huge success.

Coverage on Oprah Winfrey Show, MSNBC, Ananda Lewis and over 100 television interviews, the organization has received nearly 12,000 gown donations with an estimated resale value of over 3 million dollars.

The Real Wedding Crashers TV Show

I'm anticipated that Ashton Kutcher's new show, The Real Wedding Crashers, is going to be a huge hit. Not only because his other show was so popular and because he's quite popular himself, but because the idea of watching how other people react to how they expect you to react on your wedding day should something go wrong.

After weeks of teaser promos, NBC has finally announced the premiere of The Real Wedding Crashers, a new six-episode hidden camera comedy series where the couples being married are in on the joke, teaming up with five "crashers" to create an event their guests won't soon forget.

The Real Wedding Crashers, produced by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg's Katalyst Films, will premiere on Monday, April 23 at 10PM ET/PT (immediately after Heroes returns from its brief hiatus at 9PM ET/PT) and air regularly in the Mondays at 10PM ET/PT time period throughout its run.

Link

In the meantime, David E. Kelley's "The Wedding Bells" is getting cut after moving to it's regular time slot on Friday.

"While we've been pleased with the show creatively, and David's writing was first-rate, ('Bells') just didn't secure the ratings we'd hoped for," Fox said in a statement.

Four episodes of "Bells" have aired. For now, the network said it intends to air the remaining three segments.

This makes for an interesting opening for Kutcher's The Wedding Crashers but I still think it will do better than The Wedding Bells. Firstly NBC, where The Wedding Crashers will air, is in desperate need of a hit show so they'll do what they can to place it in a good day/time as well as promote it like crazy. Secondly, it's a hidden camera show and American's love their hidden camera shows.

Weddings in Marketing

It used to be that weddings were only talked about in small groups, usually people involved in a recent or upcoming wedding, and there was little information to be found outside of very direct channels geared toward the 1% of our population that get married every year.

Now weddings are seen everywhere from personal websites devoted to weddings, television shows, cake diving competitions at local bridal shows, video clips on YouTube, photos on Flickr as well as the normal mediums such as bridal magazines at retail stores everywhere.

This is normal and accepted, but I was sitting in traffic last weekend and noticed a billboard with a sad bride perched above the freeway (see below) and didn't think much of it until I almost slammed into the car in front of me -- I could've used that site before I left town. More importantly the State of Utah DOT is using weddings to market their online traffic monitor.

Traffic_cams_wedding_utah

I realize this is Utah, where thousands of weddings happen every year with most engagements lasting less than 6 months, but is Utah really that "wedding minded" to have the state use weddings in their marketing? I thought about Las Vegas first and probably several other cities with worse traffic like Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, Phoenix, or about 20 other major cities.

Bride Dies on her Wedding Night

A bride dies in her sleep on her wedding night, right here in my home town of Salt Lake City, but the story comes out really weird from the nightly news -- like the whole story was told. Now three months later the rest of the story comes out that Jennifer Bennett Goodall died of a prescription drug overdose. The drug was methadone and Goodall was a spokesperson for anti-drug awareness campaigns alongside the Governer's wife.

Goodall died Dec. 24 from "acute methadone toxicity," said Salt Lake City police spokesman Jeff Bedard. That finding was made by a medical examiner who also labeled her death a case of prescription abuse, Bedard said.

Apparently Goodall had lost custody of her children due to drug abuse and was trying to get on with her life. But like too many other abusers seeking help she was either over prescribed or over medicating herself.

The medical examiner database lists 113 deaths in 2006 where methadone was a factor, up significantly from 26 such deaths in 2000.

The 2006 total could increase further as the medical examiner's office receives the results of pending toxicology tests.

Grey has said the increase in deaths from methadone and other prescription drugs has been driven by a combination of people taking too much medication to treat pain and by physicians prescribing too much medication. Methadone can be particularly deadly, health experts say, because it remains in the blood stream longer than most other opiates.

Lucky Wedding Date 7-7-7

Many brides are planning their wedding date after getting engaged recently and 2007 has many great dates for the superstitious or numerically-minded. A few great dates include:

  • May 6, 2007 (5/6/7)
  • July 5, 2007 (7/7/7)
  • September 8, 2007 (9/8/7)

Last year was the year of the Devil's wedding date on 6/6/6 and many brides around the world specifically planned that day to celebrate for the rest of their lives.

Las Vegas Tourism Sets Record

No doubt that Las Vegas is the hot spot for tourists including conventions, weddings, gaming, entertainment of all kinds, and let's not forget the food. In 2006, Las Vegas hosted nearly 39 million visitors and hotel occupancy rates at 89%, higher than Hawaii at 83% and New York City at 82%. This has also increased room rates to an average of $120 per night.

Tom and Katie Wedding Date Set

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have finally set a wedding date for November 18 in Italy. Holmes will be wearing a Giorgio Armani wedding dress and Tom will be decked out I'm sure.

The couple have been one of the most searched couples on the Internet this year with details of a family fight that close friends incorrectly thought would end the relationship last Christmas season. Then came Suri, the most talked about baby of 2006, whose picture took several weeks to appear which had some speculating that the baby was never born. Now they have the challenge of trying to trump Nicole and Keith's Aussie wedding to garner even more media attention.

Big Pink Car from BridesClub.com

Okay I have to admit getting in the big pink BridesClub.com car wasn't as embarrasing at Sea-Tac airport as I thought it would be. I'm just not one to draw a lot of attention to myself but it was entertaining because everyone wants to see who's inside the big pink car. I'm sure they're also wondering about the two guys in the front seat. ;-)

Bridesclubcar

Brad Buckles, President of Brides Club, Inc., happens to be my brother and he recently wrapped his car in this "very pink" sticker set for several reasons. He is often on the road in the greater Seattle area and nothing advertises like a big pink car driving down the freeway. But he also had bigger plans -- more on that coming up.

Brides at the Seattle Wedding Expo last weekend (see the booty shaking contest video) were snapping pictures, asking questions, and I'm sure wondering what this is all about. Now you see the first reason we did this.

The second reason has to do with winning a bridal gown valued up to $699 or one of hundreds of other prizes such as L'oreal Cosmetics, Godiva Chocolates, and more for participating in the "word of the day" radio promotion on Star 101.5 radio in Seattle. For details call Star 101.5 radio.

Come see the car this weekend at the Wedding Expo in Tacoma.

Fashion Show Booty Shaking Contest

Here at the Wedding Expo in Seattle, we try to bring a little fun into the mix so our audience of brides, grooms, mothers, fathers, and bridesmaids can relax for a few minutes and enjoy themselves. Prior to the actual fashion show while our audience awaits the new fashions for the year, there is the usual welcome to the show, announcement of sponsors, then something that allows the grooms to get involved.

This weekend we had Kent Phillips from Star 101.5 radio here in Seattle to helps us get the grooms involved with the Booty Shaking contest.

Watch the video: Booty Shaking Contest

This winning bride and groom took home a $500 gift certificate to Marci Jewelry and Free tuxedos from Men's Wearhouse. Congrats!

More photos to come.

Leaving for Seattle Wedding Expo

GodivachocolateThis morning I'm leaving for Seattle to help produce the Seattle Fall Wedding Expo this weekend. If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, go online and save $2.00 off per ticket until Friday night. Also, grooms and dads get in free.

I'm packed with digital camera, video camera, tripod, and more wires than a Boeing 747 so I can capture the entire weekend, and I'm really hoping to find some wi-fi downtown so I actively post throughout the weekend.

I'm also very excited to see the new Brides Club car, which will be prominently displayed near the fashion show for all to see. In fact, I should be near the car, before and after the fashion show, on Saturday and Sunday with Brides Club trivia and give-aways from Godiva Chocolatier.

So I'm off to the airport for my full body scan. Wish me luck!

Beyonce Shoots Down Wedding Rumors

Beyonce_ellen From the lips of Beyonce, "I'm not engaged. It's a big fat rumor."

On stage with Ellen, Beyonce sets it straight that she and Jay-Z are not engaged and planning to get married in November. I'm thinking it's just a way of getting some privacy for the big day. However, she seemed very sincere about it.

On the flip-side, Charlotte Church is already planning to sell her wedding pictures for over $3 million and she's not even engaged. Now that's entrepreneurship.

Honolulu Wedding Chapel May Not Happen

Creating a wedding chapel in Honolulu seems to me a perfect fit. Like Las Vegas, Honolulu brings in thousands of wedding couples annually and not everyone wants to be married on the beach.

In consideration of this, Good Luck International Corp. is proposing a two-story wedding chapel surrounded in greenery with a turn-around for limos aimed at very small wedding parties ranging from 9 to 12 guests.

"I'm not really certain what a high-end wedding chapel is going to be doing on the corner of Kuhio Avenue and Kai'olu Street," said Bob Finley, chairman of the Waikiki Neighborhood Board. "Most of the people I've heard from are against it."

Two banquet rooms on the first floor of the chapel will seat no more than 28 people, and the chapel will accommodate up to 40. There also will be a warming kitchen on the first floor, where catered food will be brought in for weddings, Kim said.

He added that the project "pencils out financially." Right now, he said, Good Luck schedules its weddings in chapels elsewhere on the island.

"One of the reasons why a free-standing wedding facility is being built is because these wedding parties are so small," Kim said. "They really don't fit into any existing structure. You book a hotel banquet room, they're made for 100 people."

Your Wedding Got Punk'd

Ashton Kutcher has apparantly scored another TV show based on Punk'd but aimed at couples planning their wedding. His Wedding Crashers candid camera show is set to air in 2007 through a deal with NBC for at least six shows.

I agree with Mrs. Bee that this is not a time for anyone; Oprah, Ashton, or anyone inbetween; to crash your wedding that you've spent months of time and thousands of dollars preparing.

Ladies, watch yourself. You could unexpectedly become his next target.

Beyonce Engaged to Jay-Z

When big-time rapper wants to marry big-time actress/hip hop star it still requires the father's blessing -- maybe even more so. However, with that out of the way, Beyonce is ready to get her plan on. She is hoping to plan a "wedding to end all weddings" and is reportedly planning a fairytale wedding on the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean later this year.

I'm sure it will likely be huge in nature with over indulgence to match that of the oil tycoon daughter's wedding in 2004 where they spent $60 million outsourcing Donald Trump, luxury titan Bernard Arnault of France and Andrei Melnichenko of Russia to trump (no pun intended) all weddings of the time.

Las Vegas Marriage License Changes

This may be the biggest news story in the wedding industry for some time. County officials approved new hours for the Las Vegas marriage bureau, which will only affect about 4% (4900 total licenses) per year but will likely have other consequences for the Las Vegas Wedding market.

Charlotte Richards, whose 24-hour Little White Wedding Chapel married Spears, said the new hours are contrary to Las Vegas' billing as a 24-hour town and would certainly take the love-struck by surprise

LA Daily News

There is a certain stigma about Las Vegas and the need to remain a 24-hour town is at debate, but I applaud County officials for cost cutting -- it's a welcome change.

Richards said she marries 10 to 20 couples after midnight on a typical weekend. She provides a stretch limo to shuttle the betrothed back and forth to the courthouse to obtain a license for the ceremony. She said pre-dawn weddings are popular among members of the military, lovers driving in from Southern California and celebrities.

"All the stars come out at night," Richards said. "People that are high profile, when they come down to Las Vegas to get married, they don't want to come in the middle of the day when people are around. They like the privacy."

ABC News

Be sure to plan ahead when getting married in Las Vegas.

Ivory Wedding Dress - The Forgotten Color

Jim_hjelm_ivory_wedding_dressDahlia mentioned today that ivory is a forgotten wedding dress color, but I disagree. Actually many more gowns are being made in ivory and photographers are suggesting that ivory dresses actually appear better in pictures because the contrast is not as strong as white.

However, I believe that the color of your wedding dress needs to reflect you, the mood of your event, and the memories you'd like to preserve.

Find local bridal shops.

Privacy Concerns at Weddings

This kind of thing is happening more frequently in our life so why not at our weddings?

Emma Moschakis went to decorate the Archers Road social club in Southampton on the eve of her wedding only to find someone had cancelled the event.

"I just felt sick. I could not believe it was happening and I just ran out the door in tears," she told BBC News.

First off, the wedding facility should have a policy in place to ensure the cancellation. Furthermore, isn't the bride supposed to confirm the date and time a few weeks in advance? There aren't enough details to understand this case, but for your sake you might check in with your facility and be careful what you post on the Internet about your wedding. There should only be a handful of people who know enough about your wedding to be able to cancel it on your behalf. Besides you don't want to end up having your reception in a restaurant like this couple if you can avoid it.

Wedding Planners Not Just for Wealthy Anymore

Wedding planners are more necessary now than ever before for the same reason that McDonalds is doing so well despite their horrible food (I love McDonalds against all odds). Convenience is like gold.

More brides-to-be are excelling in their careers and running hectic schedules in the rat-race world we now live in so having someone to watch over the details to be sure everything is done properly is not only important but necessary.

The number of full-time professional wedding consultants in the St. Louis area has at least tripled over the last three years to around 20, wedding industry observers say. Despite the rising number of planners, the competition hasn't affected revenue growth. Find St. Louis Wedding Consultants.

Buying the Perfect Wedding Dress

Before you start your gown search it's wise to have a budget already in place, so you don’t overspend on your dress. Have a price in mind that includes your wedding dress, headpiece or tiara, slip, shoes, undergarments and bridal jewelry. Visit several established shops, and you'll quickly get a feeling about service and organization. Is the staff helpful?

Be sure to take into consideration your size and weight. Short women often look best in close fitting dresses with less decoration. When you walk down the aisle, you want the crowd to say “What a beautiful bride.” So wear what makes YOU look your very best. It is the most expensive dress you will ever buy and so smart shopping is important.

If you are big busted, take your bustier with you. Trying on dresses is very time consuming so bringing the right bra saves you time. The final bustier or bra is determined by the style of the dress so you may want to purchase it after the dress is decided upon.

The final length of your wedding gown can only be determined by wearing the right heel size. Before you walk out to look in the mirror, slip on heels. The look & flow when you walk is greatly affected by the right shoes and the right slip.

Look for a dress that best compliments your complexion and eye color [see our blog: Eye Makeup 101]. There are many shades. Just because it is a popular color, doesn’t mean it is right for you. A general rule would be that if fall and spring colors (Peach, Olive Green, Rust and Turquoise) look good on you, then gowns with yellow in them would be a good choice such as Beige or Gold. If summer and winter colors like Purple, Sky Blue, Cranberry and Lavender are good colors for you then you may want to try Ivory and stark White dresses. You can experiment with colors. Suddenly
