St. Louis Wedding Cakes

When you visit the bakery to start designing your wedding cake, remember that the wedding cake is the focal point of your reception. Look at the overall theme of your reception, and then design a cake that fits that theme. Is your wedding an evening wedding or a day wedding? What colors did you choose for your reception? Is your reception in a particular season?

Then move on to details like how many does it need to feed and what flavors do the two of you enjoy. Then last but not least what will go on the cake table with it to complete the overall look.

Here are a few companies to get you started:

After you have nailed down the details of the cake you can coordinate the favors to match.

Fake Wedding Cakes

Changes in the wedding industry happen all the time, like a few years ago when chocolate fountains became the big thing to include at your reception. Fashions change all the time and even colored wedding gowns were introduced to a fairly warm welcome.

But a fake wedding cake for your wedding? This is happening now in New York and Michigan and will likely catch on for a portion of weddings throughout the U.S.

5 Steps to a Custom Wedding Cake

Your wedding cake, no doubt, will be one of the highlights of your wedding. It is important that you design it to reflect your overall theme or give it that unforgettable personal touch.

These 5 steps will get you on your way to creating a custom wedding cake that all will remember:

  1. How many servings will you need? If the cake is the only dessert that will be served at your reception, it's a good idea to have enough for all your guests. Once this has been established, you'll know what sizes you'll need and the shapes you want.
  2. Decide on how you want the sizes and the shapes to be set up. Do you want them stacked on top of another? Stacked with pillars in between? Graduated with each cake on a separate stand? Do you want them on a novelty stand like one that's shaped like a tree, a planter?
  3. After deciding the set up of the cake, think of how you want the cake to look. Do you want it to match an overall theme, ie. shells, flowers, or stars? If not, do you want the design to mimic the details of your dress or do you simply want ribbons and dots?

  4. Now that you have the cake's overall look, you can decide on what flavors and fillings each teir will have.
  5. As a last detail, you can sketch out the design of your cake table to match your cake and the theme of you wedding.

These five steps will get you on your way to designing your wedding cake with that personal touch; one that all your guests will surely remember for years to come.

Unique Fall Wedding Ideas

Autumn_colorsOk ladies, how many of you have been to multiple weddings that all look the same. We all like to follow the trends, but we don't want cookie cutter weddings, so try something different. Why not try to decorate with the season. I went to a beautiful wedding that was decorated with Christmas trees, and white lights. A fall wedding would be beautiful with fall colors, why not get away from the same color combinations everyone else is doing and do something truly one of a kind.

Wedding Cake Design

Long time readers already know I was married at 18 -- young and completely clueless. I'm sure I said things that didn't make any sense throughout our engagement and marriage simply because I wasn't thinking when I opened my mouth -- we're good at that.

But I usually would catch myself or at least laugh about it when my loving wife would point it out. To not realize where you went wrong makes for great entertainment, however.

Read about Erica & Greg's wedding cake planning details:

ERICA: As we pass by a bakery window with towering wedding cakes, Greg casually asks me (with a perfectly straight face): "How many floors will our wedding cake have?"

ericaweddingcakefloors.jpg
"How many FLOORS?"

"Yeah, how many floors?" he repeats. "How many cakes will be on our cake?"

OK, so Greg doesn't know the term "cake tier"...no big deal, really. It was actually kind of cute.

"Probably three-ish," I respond.

"Ok, three floors will be cool," he says.

I'm glad our women think we're "cute" regardless of our regular lapses in brain activity.
